Search engine positioning plays
a large role in the success or failure of many small business
website's. If your business website is not being listed in the first
few pages of search engines results, your website could be in need of
some search engine optimization.
Keywords are in essence the
source for achieving high search engine rankings. Search engine spiders
look for the keywords in strategic places on your web page to determine
what your site is about and they will index it accordingly. Once the
site is indexed, the search engine will use its ranking algorithms to
place your site in a certain position within the search results when a
search is performed.
The trick to using keywords (or keyword phrases) is using just the right amount without going overboard.
Ok so how do I determine the best keywords?

if your site has already been indexed by the search engines is to find
out what keywords you have been indexed for,this can be done by using
these sites.
Once you have gathered that information, you
now need to determine their ranking. When choosing keywords for your
site it is better to choose high-ranking high-traffic keywords. Whereas
if you optimize your site for low-ranking keywords you will at most
gain a few hits a month, whereas one well-chosen, high-ranking,
high-traffic keyword, optimized page may gain thousands of hits per
month.
Without information on what the high-ranking keywords are, you will not gain the traffic you are seeking.
In regards to writing keyword-rich text, you
have to keep two things in mind: search engine spiders and visitors.
Your page text has to inform, engage and hopefully captivate potential
customers from amongst visitors to your site, who will wish to further
explore the site and perhaps buy the products or services on the site.
The text also has to be written so that a search engine spider will
know what the dominant keywords are, match these keywords to the title
and metatags and index the web page accordingly.
The closer the keywords are to the top of
the page and the beginning of the first sentence on the page helps with
the keywords relevancy with the search engines.
